INTA 134th Annual Meeting Recap
10 May 2012, 11:45:05 AM from DomainTools Blog

We're back from The INTA's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.! It was really great to meet face to face with current DomainTools members who often approached our booth with, "Hey, we use you guys all the time!". We learned about which tools our members use most heavily, and received excellent feedback regarding what might be most helpful to protect brands and trademarks. Of course, we also met with many potential members who often approached us with "Tell me more about what you guys do, because it sounds like exactly what I need." It was informative for us to uncover what their domain name needs were. And, in exchange for that great feedback, we depleted our inventory of over 1,200 swag items in no time! We gave away black umbrellas that had the slogan, 'Protection Against the Brand and Trademark Elements', in addition to hard cover notebooks with pen sets that included our logo. The umbrellas, in particular, were a HUGE hit with the on and off rainy days in D.C.!

Best of DomainTools Support Vol. 3
20 April 2012, 11:16:40 AM from DomainTools Blog

Happy Friday! It's the perfect day to showcase the next volume in our 'Best of DomainTools Support' series. This little gem showed up a few day ago in an envelope. Support tickets and inquiries are queued via email to our support team, so this is pretty rare! We've never had a catalog request until now. It would make it *much* more difficult to set up your DomainTools brand alerts (and other services) if you had to do it via mail order, don't you agree? ;)

Finally! No more tedious zooming, pinching, squinting or scrolling to see who owns a domain name, browse Whois history, or search domains to buy in the new DomainTools Marketplace. Starting today, anyone who visits DomainTools.com from their Android or iOS device (plus a few others) will see a mobile-optimized layout that provides nearly all the functionality and content of the standard DomainTools site. Nearly 10% of our visits are from users with mobile devices, so this is a very significant launch for us, especially at our traffic volumes.

Preview and Test the DomainTools Marketplace!
04 April 2012, 02:19:47 PM from DomainTools Blog

Today we release a preview of a very important and distinct product for DomainTools: the DomainTools Marketplace. It offers an integrated experience to discover domains to buy or register with a clean interface, easy-to-use filters, and a super-fast search engine. As the leading provider of Whois data worldwide, DomainTools gets an enormous amount of traffic from people interested in a domain’s ownership, often because they are trying to buy the domain. We’ve had connections to major domain sales platforms for years, but the search functionality was fragmented across several products. If you searched for domains about “coffee” (something I have become notorious for during these last few weeks of testing!), you had to search twice, once in our “For Sale” product and again in the “Auction Search” product. Worse, not all sources were linked to those products, so if you found a domain for sale on our Whois page and wanted to find others like it, you were often unable to do so.

I've previously described how Screenshots.com can be an incredibly useful tool for researching a domain name before you decide whether to buy it, but I sometimes find it's just great fun too. With an archive of screen captures dating back seven years or more for many popular sites, it can be fascinating to dive back into the history of the web and remind yourself just how quickly technology trends have changed our online lives.

DomainTools Ugg Boots Surprise
22 February 2012, 09:17:38 AM from DomainTools Blog

As you may know from some of our previous "Best of Support" posts, DomainTools Support receives a wide variety of inquiries via our online support portal. Some of the inquiries are appropriate membership-related questions and other inquiries are not related to DomainTools at all. With that said, we recently had a package delivered to DomainTools that contained a hand-written letter and...a pair of fake Ugg boots.
